Subject: We Need a Win in the WORST way...

okay, Fordham has already dropped games to Siena and Iona (and SFU) but is coming off a HUGE win at Virginia. It goes without saying that this is a game that we MUST win, period. Why?

1) It's our last game before exams, need to build some momentum.
2) Payback for last year's shellacking in da Bronx (what was it a 30-0 run or something like that).
3) Show that we can bounce back from a heartbreaker (Loyola) and a blowout (Georgetown).
4) Put a W in the column at HOME.

Even though this is a regional game of interest, my guess is that the student section is empty and we get nary 2,500 for the game. That being said, we need to win this one in the worst way. I will go out there and say that this game will stand as the turning point for our season. If we drop this one, our confidence may be so low, we may have a season similar to Siena's last year or Loyola two years back.

I, for one, think it's payback time for last year....

The game is important because we need to rebound from a bad performance where we were dominated, a demoralizing loss, and we got to be hungry for a a home win. The players pride is as stake, but they know full well that they are going to have to win this game without all their horses.

Fairfield is jinxed when it comes to playing Fordham. Don't know what the series numbers are, but it's one-sided in Fordham's favor. It shouldn't be that lopsided.

Fordham has always had our number. Last year they absolutely destroyed us ... however, I wouldn't be surprised if we won this game in a close one.

We do have a history of losing to this school. I remember the last time we faced Fordham at Alumni Hall. At the time the Rams were something like 1 and 23 and they beat us. A fiftiesh Fordham guy was seated across from me and his face was beet red, he was so excited. I expected a visit from the paramedics before the end of the game. I thought that he was going to croak.

I hate to say it, but I think someone did die once during a Fordham/Fairfield game. Wasn't it the grandmother of one of the players?

I believe it was Troy Bradford's relative.

Troy Bradford's grandmother. They stopped the game and had to resume it at Rose Hill, in a doubleheader of sorts. I believe that Fordham won both games by the same score.

A male spectator died in the stands some years before that.
