He never wanted to hurt as much as she was right now. "You know he probably does... There are just .. things standing in the way at the moment." Probably things that he couldn't control. Adam, himself, would hate to be in that situation .. not that he'd have really put himself there in the first place. He didn't know why he was defending this guy .. maybe for Elises sake..
