Freud further argues that the enduring sucess of education comes when the child has most fully embraced the standards of the parents even when he has moved out of the house and is living on his own. The super-ego, which one big imitation of parents, appears to be nothing more than imitative desire. It does involve habitual conditioning by the parent either threatening punishment or threatening to withold love, but Freud describes the child's final action as one of imiation of the parents. Is there any great difference between Freud's definition of the superego and mimetic imitation?
