As I come to accept more of Girard's theories, there are a few practical items that I can't get around (yet).

For instance, since when is it loving to let someone do whatever he damn well pleases? Has anyone considered that ultimately it might be more loving to your enemy to stop him from attacking you, rather than letting him continue on a course that is destructive not only to you, but to him (his soul)? You would probably try to stop a thief from stealing from you, not merely because his theft is harmful to you, but because theft is wrong, and harmful to the thief. In perhaps similar fashion, God intervened on our behalf, and yet on His own behalf. "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Eph 2:1,5; Rom 5:8). He acted for us by conquering us (John Donne's Holy Sonnet 14).
