Thinking on a communal level, it is interesting that the rumors of Tristan and Isolde's love affair are spread as a result of jealous nobles. This seems to have all the marks of a mythological text, at least based on what you said here. This text tells a story in which jealous nobles spread nasty rumours of infidelity so that Tristan (the poison?) must leave the community, and, in which, the claim is very true. But was it always true? It seems worthwhile to question the veracity of the text, as it may present us with a kind of scapegoat mechanism, where infidelity - a sin breaking fundamental cultural boundaries - is alleged against an innocent victim in order to cleanse the community of violence, with violence.
