This made me think about a personal example of mimesis in fashion that I experienced in 7th grade. I had recently gotten a new hair cut the summer before 7th grade, and I always wore it in a certain way - done up in twisted circles that I bobby pinned to stay. Well, I liked this new style for me so much that I wore it almost every day for the 1st month of school. It was then that I noticed many of the underclassmen had copied the way I had done up my hair. I remember feeling flattered, proud and a bit haughty about it, knowing that people were noticing me and liked me enough to copy me. Telling my mom about it, she clearly saw the "mimesis" of the fashion and told me that anything new is considered fashion, and that often, that fashion was reminiscent of even older days. She told my about 70's bell-bottom pants - which were completely in style at that time and I was completely obsessed with. It amused me.
