I’m not sure that I follow, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you’re saying that it is easy for us to scapegoat the Nazis for the atrocities of World War II because they seem completely arbitrary to us. We think that Nazis and Nazism are so unlike anything we would ever be guilty of ourselves, that we can blame Nazism without incriminating anyone to whom we might be compared. In fact, though, this is to overlook that Nazis were (and are) humans, and that if some humans became Nazis, then we in the 21st century could conceivably become Nazis (or whichever philosophy/regime you demonize most).

In other words, blame the Nazis up and down for the Holocaust, but don’t think that they are absolutely unlike us, because then you blame them for something you think you or your country could never be guilty of, and which therefore you don’t guard against, and which therefore you are vulnerable to….
