I've been thinking about this since I posted it, and I've decided to revise my interpretation. Although Ben Folds has discovered that he--previously considered the victimizer--is now the victim, he has not deciphered the cycle as a whole. The song is an attempt to make the non-white-males the new victimizers, which will only perpetuate the cycle. There is no acknowledgement of participation in the cycle, only a desire to claim the status of new victim. Also, Ben Folds is more than willing to scapegoat his "great great great grandad." It seems like the one of the first steps to escape the cycle is to own guilt and participation (see my post on Seamus Haney), and Ben Folds is a far cry from that.
