Subject: Bratantio's model

So, in Shakespeare, we just finished reading Othello with Dr. Smith and I couldn't get over how much Brabantio desired a model in the text. He tells Othello that the story of his daughter escaping in the middle of the night sounds like the thing one reads about "in books" (1.1.177) In the courtroom, he tells all to people to hear the story of Desdemona "as t'were there own" (1.2.99). He retells the court the story of Desdemona as though she was really well behaved (1.3.101ff). He recreates a model story for himself and his daughter. And announces how he would follow his own model story and act as a tyrannical father had he another daughter (1.3.200).
