Subject: Significance of Brabantio's model

While Brabantio's insistance on finding and creating a model to follow himself and to set up for others surely comes across as an insistent point of the text, in the larger context of the play, models play a hugely important role. Iago stands as the model for Othello, while he imitates both Othello and Cassio. Othello also discusses how Cassio has mediated his love for Desdemona. And on and on the triangles weave throughout the text. Brabantio appears to demonstrate the mechanism by which all the other characters find models. Brabantio discusses his search for a model and his attempt to set himself up as a model. He describes explicitly what all the other characters do unconsciously.
