This brings up an interesting question for me. You're interpreting Herodotus through Girardian lens. Can we interpret ancient history in general that way? At least, can we read the ancient history texts, which have a tinge of mythology in them, and use them to help see how myths begin? I know that Herodotus wrote down everything he heard and was told some falsities by the characters he questioned. Perhaps, through Herodotus' retelling, we see the beginnings of a myth being born. However, as it is in writing, it is established and the kings cannot be divinized to some degree.
