You say that "The guilty are always punished, in the final story," but what do you mean by that? It seems that Girard's point about myth is that the guilty often escape being punished by the destruction of their own violence by substituting a scapegoat.

Girard has this to say about the Old Testament, and it perfectly articulates what I was pointing out about how Noah's story differs from other myths: "Instead of invariably displacing the responsibility for the collective murder toward the victim, this form in inspiration takes a contrary path; it looks once again at the mythical elaborations and tends to deconstruct them, placing the responsibility for the violence upon those who are really responsible--the members of the community" (TH, p. 177)
