Interesting observation but I was wondering (and please correct me if I am at a complete misunderstanding) isn’t Girard talking about sacrifice in the mythical sense in Violence and the Sacred. In Dr. Jackson’s post “As we progress, some advice…” he mentions how Girard hoped to show the Judeo-Christian faith was not just another religious myth; “it is anti-mythic”. I don’t know if I’m reading into this right but then wouldn’t Jesus being 100% human and 100% God at the same time actually help differentiate between myth and the Judeo-Christian faith? In myth there has never been a victim that perfectly belonged both inside and outside the community but Jesus Christ clearly did. Another idea that I found interesting is that the death of Christ is not defined as a sacrifice but as “an act that brings salvation to humanity” (Girard mentions this in Things Hidden… pg. 180).
