Actually, a friend of mine and I were discussing kind of the same thing. Where does the issue of preference come into play? Say I desire vanilla more than chocolate, simply because I like vanilla more than chocolate. Does something as trivial and arbitrary (seemingly, anyway) like that have to fall under the same category of mediated desire?
