Once I drew a picture of Eowyn slaying a Nazgul. My little brother, in and adorably imitative manner, tried to draw the same thing. He successfully reproduced the basic picture, but he couldn't quite work out all of the details. He was imitating me, but his picture turned out to be much different from mine. Mine had been a good drawing; his was a pretty bad one. So, yes, humans are imitative, but more often than not, imitations differ from originals. My brother liked to imitate my drawing, but NEVER has he wanted to wear dresses or makeup. I like to imitate my father's exercise habits, but I do not want to weigh 175 lbs. In this way, I maintain a measure of control over the extent to which I imitate him. Yes, humans are imitative, but we also have brains and the ability -- even if only finite, limited ability -- to direct our imitations.
