Subject: Quixote's End

I think that my favorite quote in Don Quixote is right at the end of the book. "He had the luck, with much ado,/ To live a madman, yet die wise." I'm left wondering what Cervantes was trying to say with this sentence. Is it an excuse for Don Quixote? Is he saying it's alright to delude oneself as long as one /eventually/ comes to one's senses? It's interesting to think about. I think that Cervantes might be saying that making mistakes is a part of life. Don Quixote's mistake was allowing his delusions to go on for so long. However, wisdom only comes after experience. So, it a way, maybe we all have to go through some "madness" in order to have the wisdom of life.
