Subject: Heroes within the Scapegoat Mechanism

In Chapter 3, "What Is A Myth?," from The Scapegoat, Girard, while explaining the idea of monstrous, begins using the term "hero". He even quotes one passage, stating: "[the heroes]are distinguished by their strength and beauty but also by their monstrous characteristics..." This struck me for we usually distinguish between the "hero" and the "monstrous", especially in myth and legends. Who would be the hero in stories illustrating the scapegoat mechanism? Those who "expose" the "villian" (i.e. the scapegoat) or the scapegoat himself. Girard seems to be using the term to refer to the latter. Would this then be part of the same "double trasnference" that turns the victim into a deity?
