Your bringing up sports is brilliant. If there's ever a place in our society where rivalry and violence are channeled and praised...

I played Little League for a long time, and in my last season there's only one game that I remember clearly at all. I was playing first base, and we went into extra innings because we were tied, 3-3. The pitcher allowed two walks in a row, then struck a batter out, and then the other team's slugger came to the plate. Big guy, had hit a triple a few innings before. Everyone knew he was probably going to get a hit. The runners stole third and second with one out. The pitcher worked the slugger up to a full count, then gave him a fastball down the middle, and of course, the slugger swung. But he didn't hit it in the air--the grounder came at me, and I bobbled it. I tried for a double play, stepping on first and then firing the ball home, but even before I released I saw I was too late, and I screamed "NOOOO!" at the top of my lungs and chucked the ball at the pitcher.

I see now I was victimizing the pitcher because I myself was suddenly a victim. But I got victimized myself as we trudged into the dugout. And I also realize that by telling this story (from a scapegoat's perspective) I'm kinda deifying myself by making myself out to be the victim, when in fact I wasn't the only one who made mistakes.
