Like Tony, among my favorites are not the expensive Hollywood productions. I like those movies which are contemplative, thought-provoking and/or humorous, ironcial. These are often low-budget productions, not for the international market. Here are some examples of the type of movie I like and are just coming into my mind:

The Pianist
Whalerider
Wir können auch anders (German only)
The White Rose (German only)
Irony of Fate, or ""Enjoy Your Bath" (Russian only)

This does not mean that I do not enjoy a Hollywood production every now and then. I even watched the "Lord of the Rings" and recently, "I, Robot," but though these productions are very expensive and impressive with much eye candy, they are in the end too superficial to touch your soul or heart or really make you laugh.

I also like very old movies like Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy ("Honolulu baby" - one of their best), or Don Camillo. I can still laugh about animated disney cartoons together with my little son. I once liked Monthy Python, but meanwhile I think its too stupid and unchristian, even anti-Christian.
