Acho que seria bom dar todo o trecho para melhor contextualizar o pessoal.

Ou seja, o autor está defendendo que enquanto se o aprendiz vai se descondicionando de algumas crenças, ele vai ao mesmo tempo adquirindo controle sobre sua própria aprendizagem.
