I don't watch American Idol, but I read. Simon Cowell owns American Idol, for the most part. (He owns the winners, too, all of whom have had to go to legal extremes to extricate themselves from him.) If he left it, most of the money it makes would still go into his pocket. That's if you take these current theatrics at face value. Do you really think that he's upset about any "controversy" that brings more viewers to the show and has more people talking about it? It's not out of the question that he would have helped engineer this situation, given the fact that American Idol is no longer a young show, and that any controversy keeps it in the public psyche.

I wouldn't be wasting any sympathy on Simon.
