Perry requested that I forward this to all who have kept up on the ummm....suspense:

Hey, everyone,

I hope that you will forward this email to any who were kind enough to take the time to vote for my song “You Believed In Me” in the American Idol competition (which took at least 20 minutes because it was such a pain).

In short, the bad news is that my song did not win. The winning song is called “Time of My Life” and was written by a great guy (by the accounts I’ve read) and very accomplished songwriter named Reggie Hamm. The song will be sung by the winner at the very end of the show. (USA Today has already announced the winning song, so it is no longer a secret.)

In fact, to give you and idea of the competition I was up against, the winner, Reggie Hamm, according to his MySpace page, has had over four hundred of his songs recorded, has had 20 Number One hits, and has been nominated for Grammy awards, etc.

The good news is that you voted my song into the top 10. They will not give us an actual ranking, but told us only that we were in the “Top 10”. Here’s where it gets interesting. American Idol, as you know if you watched last night’s show, allowed the finalists – actually the top three finalists – to listen to the top 10 songs and pick one each to sing at the finale (last night). Of course, when they did this, Syesha was still in the competition. American Idol has advised me that, as it turns out, Syesha chose my song to sing and she would have sung it last night had she not been voted off the show. I know, kind of crazy that Syesha would choose my song because of its rock sound.

The song that was selected by David Cook was “Dream Big”, which was written by an accomplished award-winning songwriter and the song chosen by David Archuleta, “In This Moment” was written by the writer of the theme song for an upcoming Fox series called “Unhitched.” In fact, many of the writers who wrote the top 20 songs are quite accomplished and it was an honor to have my song among theirs, considering this is the first contest I have ever entered and that I have only written a handful of songs.

So, your votes were helpful in getting my song in the Top 10 and having it available to be chosen by the finalists. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time and getting the vote out. I know many of you forwarded the information on to a whole lot of friends and spent significant time trying to get my song to the top and I really, truly appreciate it.

In the next months, I will be doing my best to get “You Believed In Me” into the hands of someone that will get it recorded and released. If nothing happens with the song, to have made the Top 10 out of “tens of thousands” is pretty amazing and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity I have had and thank you for helping that happen.

Please do forward this email to those who voted, as I obviously do not have all of those addresses.

Gratefully,

Perry
