Yuck!

If I understand correctly, one of Partylite's employees (the sales consultant) made a mistake and so you ordered additional items in good faith based on what she told you. Turns out she's wrong and now you can't get your money back, only "store credit," for money that you wouldn't have given them if she'd been accurate in the first place. Right.

Sounds like you're on the fast track to getting this resolved but if I may suggest... if you start getting the runaround again, mention that you've started posting your experience on some blogs and boards you frequent and that you're looking forward to recanting the statements once everything's resolved with a glowing resolution. No one wants bad press and companies are wising up to the damage online communities do.

When you mention Jane's ATM card, do you mean debit card? Probably too late now, but if so, and if it's a Visa, she should be able to work with them to investigate fraudulent charges -- at least that works for me. I have a Visa debit card and use it all the time and get the protection automatically. There have been a few times when I've bought big-ticket items and by the time I get home, there's a call from Visa saying "is this really you purchasing the stuff? If so, press 1..."

Keep us posted! I love a good retail drama -- unless it's mine, of course. (Take THAT, macys.com!)
