Political correctness isn't infallible. There will always be people who are offended by the slightest perceived injustice. And there is certainly value in disagreement and debate. It's how problems get solved. But as far as day-to-day things go, if I think somebody is going to be pissed if I talk loudly in a restaurant, for example, I just don't do it. Even if other people are.

If I was in a restaurant full of Mexicans, and I wanted to talk to my friend about the Beaners coffee place issue, I'd probably wait until I got home. It's just easier than having to explain to everyone in earshot that I didn't mean anything by it, and I don't risk making somebody think white people are racist.

And I don't know who Steven Brust and Roger Zelazny are.
