Just remember, I didn't recommend the Fionavar series. Agreed that Art and Lance didn't need to make an appearance -- that was my disappointment with an otherwise pretty good series. Kay's way too imaginative to need that vehicle.

If you liked Tigana, then I think you'd like "The Lions of Al-Rassan" or "A Song for Arbonne." Both are self-contained novels and I think Kay does best with that.

I just finished reading "Across the Nightingale Floor" by Lian Hearn, first in a series of at least three. As the B&N review says, "...like a cross between Frank Herbert's Dune and the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon..." which is pretty accurate.

I read the Gunslinger back in the late '80s when it was a rare book and my roommate happened to have it. I remember it being very good and wished King would get going on the rest of the series.

When he finally did, the same roommate read the next and said that it was okay but the magic of the story was gone. But now that I have a shiny new library card, I might check them out. Let me know if you like 'em.

Did you ever read Asimov's Foundation series?
