I read the series last year at the recommendation of pav. I've been a Stephen King fan since the '70s. I never read him for the horror, I read him and continue to, because he tells a story like nobody else can. I started the first book in March and finished the series in July. I loved it. The characters became a part of my life. If you've read a lot of his work, you'll see some of the characters and plotlines from his other books in this series. Having read everything he's every written, it was cool to see how it all kind of ties together in this story. It's also kind of amazing to think that a story that was started 30 odd years earlier and left aside for many years is as cohesive as it is. I'm no literary critic and often am criticized for reading an author who some of my more "educated" friends call a hack,(to which I reply, at least it's not Danielle Steele.) but I truly loved these books (and Stephen King).
