Consumerism is a big reason why I lost a lot of my curiosity growing up. Like with computers, for example. I used to be fascinated by how computers worked, and I learned how to program in several languages at a young age. Now there's software out there that I can buy that does more or less what I want for the amount of money I make in a couple hours of working at my job, so why should I spend weeks or months of my free time programming something just to get it exactly the way I want it? It's sort of a question of time invested vs. the worth of the knowledge gained.

When you're younger, you have no such perspective, so you're often fascinated by things regardless of how practical it is to know about them.

Also when you're younger you aren't interested in sex yet.
