I’ve read your essay I like it and agree with your ideas , but I think you should be more specific about the steps of teaching reading.
For example you mentioned that first there might be a discussion about the social context, ok, then you say that it seems that the first step is to elicit the background knowledge.Which comes first?? I believe it is necessary to organize your ideas.
It is not clear to me what the “particular skills” (??) are and your conclusion “....to develop a consciousness of .....” (??).

I know what you are talking about because I’ve already read about the subject, but If haven’t I would have to ask you lots of questions.
