Dear Carol,

The most important step at this time is to leave the entrance alone so that the raccoons can enter and exit without causing more damage. It is usually best to contact a licensed nuisance wildlife trapper in your area to handle the problem. Many things can go wrong if you try it yourself and most states require some sort of removal permit if the homeowner is to trap themselves.

Remember, if you try to do it yourself, check with your state conservation or natural resources department for laws pertaining to trapping wildlife.
