Date Posted: 14:54:51 11/28/07 Wed I have a freshly rebuilt sachs sa 290 sled motor (@1970)and it is currently installed on a crazy off road go kart...i want to run lights and it is capable of lighting up one small automotive lightbulb, but when i hooked up a pair of driving lites, it barely lit them up at all. does anyone have any info or suggestions? is it a 6 volt system, should i use a battery? wiring diagrams? |

Date Posted: 18:02:29 02/08/08 Fri I am rebuilding a 84 ski doo safari 377 engine. I bought a engine on ebay and case was damaged. I have found another case and started putting it together but don't remember where the marks on the stator were. Does the stator need to be timed or do i just line up the marks on stator and case? The fly wheel is keyed so looks there is not very much adjustment if any but don't know. Would any one have a repair manual for this 1984 ski doo safari with the 377 rotax engne? Thanks Bob |

Date Posted: 12:57:10 01/12/08 Sat Hi there... Last year my Everest ran like a dream all winter. I did not drain the gas or use fogging oil for summer storage. I started it a couple of ttimes through the summer. Now I can ge it started but it won't idle. It runs like a hot damn, but the minute I let go of the throttle it will bog down and die. I filled it with fresh fuel/oil mix and a small bottle of isypropyl and ran it up and down the street for half an hour, but it will still die if I let it idle. I can keep it going with the primer. Anyone got a suggestion as to where I should start? Thanks...Yukon Paul. |

Date Posted: 17:02:12 01/30/08 Wed I have two questions, first i bought this sled at an auction for 50.00 bucks, it is in fair to good shape, few cracks in the hood but everything is there, is this sled rare or worth money? someone offered me 500.00 for it already and i don't have it running right yet! Second, I can't get it to stay running, I pump the primer it starts on the first pull, runs good for about 5 seconds then starts running faster like its leaning out then dies. Obviously it is starving for fuel but I don't know why, The diaphram pump in the carb looks good but could it still be the problem? or something else? |

Date Posted: 18:00:06 01/29/08 Tue I have a 1972 Skidoo 440 with a blown head gasket. I ordered new gasket set twice and got the wrong one both times. The kit says it is for a 72-74 TNT 440, but the bolt holes and cylinder bores are to big.My cylinder measures approximately 2.550 in. My serial # is 240302791 and the engine # could be 2329505, this # was written in the owners manual I have, but I coudn't find it on my motor. Could someone have changed the motor? Can someone help me before I try to order the gaskets again. Thanks, Al |

Date Posted: 00:35:12 01/22/08 Tue I have a 1979 yamaha exciter 440ex and it keeps blowing pistons on the side furthest away from the fan. I originally thought my oil pump wasnt working so I started mixing the oil 40-1 in the tank and still have melt downs. I changed the coil on my third meltdown and ran fine for weeks then this morning I put the original coil back on because the other coil blew and sled ran 20 minutes then melt down again. Any info would be great thanks |

Sounds like the drive belt but the belt is not moving when the skidoo is just sitting there.I put a new belt on last week.I did not have this noise before this.Could someone let me know if this is something serious or if it is just the new belt. I got it started and it ran great after I filed the points to get spark in both cylinders, it ran about 5 mins stalled and now it wont start, have good spark to both cylinders and am totally lost now,,,,compression is 120 in both cylinders ,,,could it be carb ,,,it wont even try to start spraying fuel thur the carb or trying to spray it with starting fluid,,it almost acts likes its flooded, what would cause the carb to pump to much fuel thru the carb? thanks Dale |

Date Posted: 19:32:03 01/25/08 Fri I have a 1982 skidoo citation. Great shape. Starts first pull and runs great... until I fill with fuel. Each time I fill with fuel it won't start. It seems there is no spark at all. Leave for a couple of weeks and it fires with a few pulls. When I pull the plugs there is lot's of gas on them so it seems to be getting fuel. Any ideas why this is happening? |

Date Posted: 13:49:46 01/29/08 Tue hi there i have a 1992 safari. The headlight is dim. I have put new ground on. Replaced power wire and still nothing. Dealer sold me a voltage regulator for it but i pulled almost everything apart on it and cant locate it. Someone in the past had installed a 1989 formula 500 motor in it. Is it possible that it doesnt have one? If so can i somehow get a brighter lite? It does have a battery for the electric start can i hook straight up to it with a toggle switch to turn off and on? Any help would be nice getting very frustarted. Thanks |

I would like the belt number for the clutch 2. year 3. what the motor came out of 4. the prices of the lower fan belt pully 5. the jet settings 6. a wiring diagram for the electical wiring harness 7. the fuel mixture 8. and what mods can be done to the exaust system this is a free air, air cooled engine and it is a 2 cycle. |

Theres one on top of the carb and one at the bottom of the carb and one coming out of the crank case. It starts but thrives for fuel |

I am almost done putting it back togeather but I have a question about the oil pump outlets. There are three outlet on the oil pump and I only see two spots on the intake manifold where they go (and maybe one on the carb) but I just wanted to know if anyone knows if I'm hooking it up right. Date Posted: 15:49:54 01/24/08 Thu where do i begin... i have what i believe is a 1973 articat lynx 292? with a suziki sprit motor ok this is what's going on it runs very weird.... this is what i mean.... it runs butonly at an idle you give it gas it boggs down, with or with out choke on... gas is mixed 20:1 as per the manufacture and the carb has been rebuilt and adjusted to manufacture specs it has spark very good spark new plugs, and very good compression.... i thought maybe it had a slight short in the electrical system so i unpluged the wire harnes at the motor and still runs bad.... if i pull either plug out it will still run on one clyinder and with the bogging as mentioned befor i tryed straying wd-40 around the crank seals and jug/head to see if i has a vacume leak but none was evident... also when i pull the spark plugs out there slightly wet but still work.... has spark, fuel and compression.... totally baffled as to what to do next... ran great 2 weeks ago had alot of pep.... please help me and reply back if you have any ideas... thank you, Steve |

She fired up ran for a few minutes then lost spark. after it cooled down it seemed to get spark again. When it would run, i had my spark tester hooked up between the plug and wire and i could just watch it fade away to nothing. i have new coils wires and plugs. all the wire conections are good. the points were gaped at .011. I just dont know if the stator is bad or if its just the condensor. Any help will be greatly appriciated! thanks cody |

Date Posted: 17:36:53 11/18/07 Sun Hello, I had posted previous about a dim lights issue on my skidoo..I have verfied the magneto or light coil fron engine is good..measure 12VDC as well I measure 12 VDC at light but still have dim head and taillights. I have disconnected the votage rectifier and all lights are working normal except I blew the bulb in the headlight when I gave it more throttle. I do see a few black spots within the voltage rectifier .. does everyone agree that I have a bad rectifier and does the rectifier keep the current constant for the lights? |

We just had a blast of cold weather for 3 days(a wind chill of -40) Can someone help me on where you think the gas a leaking from? Can it be a broken hose or something else? I just want to save a few bucks and see if I can fix it by myself. HHHYYYMMMM! |

Last week I lost the spark on one cylinder, plugs good wire good doesn't have any spark coming out of the engine going to the cellinode. Does this machine have points on it that might have gone? And if so where are they located, I'm questing behind the fly wheel? Any help would be appreciated. |

Date Posted: 06:42:57 12/07/07 Fri I have a 1975 Olympic 340 that we have had seen it was new. About 25 years ago we had the carb switched over to a Mikuni. Can you tell me what the numbers are for the components in the carb? It is set up with a Mikuni VM30 carb. I have not bad bottom end power but the top end is not great. I have found numbers for the carb items but they are for a TNT 340 but they have a different exhaust system which will give it a different back pressure. Any help that you could give me would be great. |

We think the engine is not getting enough fuel, probably the economizer jet is plugged. The snowmobile has been sitting with fuel in it for three years. The snowmobile also is making a screeching sound intermittently which make me think something is slipping or getting off its track. Anyone have any similar problems? |

I hoped someone might have a color diagram to help me out, for this is the first sled i have taken on to restore. Also what is the best way to test the stator and lighting coil in the crank. My father-in-law has one that could use some work so that come Christmas time the grand kids, (and myself) have some thing to putz around on. The main issue it's having seems to be a fuel issue. It bogs down like it's running rich. We have checked the plugs, cleaned the carbs, ect. I don't have the jetting specs, and I'm running at around 8-10,000ft (Montana) The fuel filter is one thing we haven't replaced, and to be honest am I am not familiar with skidoos exspecially of the 80's era, and I'm not sure where it is located. We have traced the fuel line to a little black box looking unit and are wondering if that is the critter? Either way, we just need some schematics so we can identify these ancient parts and continue the elimination process. Does anyone have any ideas of what else I could look for? I would greatly appreciate your help, and would be willing to shell out some $ for a manual. Thanks, Lindy |

Its a 1980 Kawasaki INTRUDER..thats the fan version, its a 440 engine and has the ELECTRIC STARTER. I bought it BRAND NEW in 1980. It has just under 1900 actual miles on it. I quit riding after my buddy had a accident that cost him his life. Its in perfect shape as per appearances. I've NOT fired it SINCE 1985. It's been stored under cover and under a large piece of home carpet, it appears almost brand new, the track is still in great shape as is the paint and all. The engine is still free and I'm certain with a tank and carb cleaning it would most likely fire immediately. Does anybody out there in sled land have any idea of its true value based on todays dollar market. |
