Phazer ll 1990 snowmobile/the snowmobile dont want to go futher than 25 kmh. Start well, rpm good,good acceleration 0 to 25 kmh ,fuel pump ok,carb setting ok, primairy and secondary sheave ok, belt ok,intake manyfole ok,I notice that the belt travel only 1/3 of the primairy and secondary sheaves from 0 to 25 kmh, it dont want to go further than 25 kph.Is it possible that the manyfole is partielly block?

HI can any body tell me if any body has ever put a newer modern clutch on a 1970 nordic ? Like maby a late model 340 Elan clutch or a blizzerd clutch .This clutch I have is stock But burns a belt down In days. Thank you every body. i have a 1989 yamaha 540 srv.... recently for some reason the choke flap in my carberatur basicly welded itself to the sides of the carb... so i got a carb off of a yamaha 440 ss. they look rather similar. actually i could say they are almost identical. i was wondering if i can put the on my 540 or is there any conversion methods that i need to undergo in order to get my 540 going? im trying to sell this 540 and i want to get it running so that i can.... please help me. is this possible? yes or no? and is anyone interested in buying my snowmoPILE?

Machines run good for about 10 minutes and then they lose almost all power and slow to an idle even at full throttle. If you let them sit for an hour or two they run great again for about 10 minutes. Any suggestions on what's wrong or where to start looking?

If I pull the left side plug it will start, but run rough. I can put the plug back in and no start, if I leave it running and install the plug and spark plug boot it'll take off like a raped ape. Yes I have good spark on both sides, the carb is cleaned,swapped out the coil, no vacuum leaks that I can tell. It does start easier if I squirt fuel into the air breather tube.It will not start if you pull the right plug only the left, I'm checking compression in the morning.Any body have any ideas.

And every thing seems good starts right up and Idles well but when I give it throttle it seems like she just doesnt want to move I dont have a lot of experience with sleds but could it be the belt or something like that I spent alot of time on this sled cleanimng it up and stuff I want to ride it I also put new plugs and fuel filter on it.

Hi i have a 1974 artic cat , has a 292 kawasaki engine ,had a warbrol diaphram carb on it just wondering if it is possabale to have a mikuni carb retro fitted , with all the proper factory settings for it so that i dont blow her up . I would need carb size , jet size, needle adjustment setting,slide cut away, and what ever else. I would really appreciate if some could help me out , i love driving the old girl , dont like when i cant due to carb trouble.

Hi I have a 1990 ski doo safari lx and just cleaned my carbs it starts okay and I adjusted the Idle to 1800-2000 RPMS when I give it throttle after I let off the throttle the RPMS drop under 1800 and very gradually go back to 2000 and if I go full throttle she breaks up. Seems to be okay low throttle and mid. Can any 1 help me dont know if I need some thing new or just need more Adjustment Im fairly new at this but pretty mechanically able.

Hey everyone,

I have a '79 Arctic Cat snowmobile that hasnt been used in years! (maybe like 12?!)
We got it started last winter, but im positive some works needs to be done to get it running good since it hasnt been used in a while.

The body is okay, not mint, theres some dents, scratches. There is also a spare motor (needs work) and extra body parts. I need an opinion on what I should be selling for.

Hello, I just picked up an artic cat puma 440. I have no spark at either new plug. I pulled flywheel cleaned everything up, sanded and reset point gap .014. Points looked ok. I also elimanated kill switch. Put everything back together. Removed coils,on one porcelian had a crack. Tried starting with battery, then removed battery and tried pull start, no spark either way. Should i try new points and condensers and coil packs or am i missin something. Another thing none of the lights worked. This sled sat for about 10-15 yrs, it has about 2000 miles on it. Another thing when i first bought it, it had spark, then i lost spark, then it came back and now i have none it seemed to come and go.

I am trying to figure out the wiring on my 1974 polaris electra 250 it came out of the bush and there was two yellow wirers a red one a orange one.the thing i am strugling with is that when the key ignition is unpluged there is no spark and there should be ( yes or no ). I then hooked the red wire from the magneto strait to the coil . Then there was spark when keyed ignition was unpluged . Now how to get power to keyed ignition to be able to use key to switch off sled . I ran a wire off of the two red wires to the key but no matter where on the key switch there was no way of cutting power from the coil .Just wondering if any one can help . I am thinking that the two yellows are for lights and the red is hot orange ????????

One of my good friends has an all original "bought brand new" one owner 1972 292 Elan SS and he said he was told they only made 7 of them? I am new to this hobby but I am pretty sure it is a dime a dozen sled, anyone have any information on them? Is this a rear sled? serial number is 00144. I have pictures as well. It is about an 8 out of 10 condition, what is it worth?

this sled out of the blue started running crappy when it gets warm,no power pretty much just dies, it works not to bad when cold but not as good as it used to. The pto sides plug is always cool like its not firing. Did a compression both sides tested 110. Swapped spark plug wires because it has a common coil still pto side fails to fire properley. replaced the fuel pump vac hose thinking it was leaking creating an issue and still same prob. did an either test around the intake and crank seal and no sighns of leaking. Changed the cdi unit and still the issue was there. Talked to Bombardier and asked if it could possibly be the pickup coils and they said absolutley not. Bought a camera with a cable eye, snaked it up the intake and found there was some scoring on the piston wall. So I completely rebuilt the top end, bored it out and oversized pistons. Still the issue it there. So i ask, could it be the pickup coils on the stator. Does anyone know some ohms test readings for these coils as per skidoo didn't have any tests nor could they say they could get them.Thanks for any insight, my son realy wants his sled running again.

Also the Idle adjustment screw is missing, maybe it is letting in some air through the hole? Will try to find one at the junk yard.

yamaha srv 540 ,when idle it runs great cold, when warm it is shooting a flame up in the hose going from the bottom end to the fuel pump and backfiring.then you have to keep the choke on to get back home. got all new hoses,gaskets, seals,swithed cdi boxes,cleaned carb, checked reeds,and made sure keyway wasnt sheared. the line from fuel pump to carb goes low and is getting bubbles but dont know if that is a different issue.got spark to both cylinders.can anyone please help!

Hello.There was some question about the red vintage machine on the home page with the 3 cyl motor.Its one of the most rare machines out there.It is a 1971 or 72 Moto-ski sm 793 racer.Of the few out there most were delivered with a twin cyl,but only a handful came with the 793 cc Hirth Triple .Even with the twin it is not unusual to hear of then selling in the 8 to 9 thousand range(restored) .One restored triple sold for 12 thousand.
I have a triple in the back shed in parts that only has 36 miles on the clock .Its rusty and dusty ,but would still fetch 5000$as it sits.When I saw the pic of this one ,I was quite surprised .

I recently hauled a '71 SkiDoo Olympique 300 out of a barn--it hadn't been run for years, last licensed in 1972--original paint still on the bottom of the runners! I rebuilt the carb, cleaned the tank and it runs great. Manual calls for a fuel mix of 20:1 which makes it smoke something fierce. With modern 2 cycle oils I was wondering if I can get by with a less rich mixture, not damage the engine, and leave less of a smokescreen. Thanks

Contact points needed replcing on a 1985 elan with a rotax, single cylinder 247 type engine. OEM points are discontinued so got a KIMPEX replacement set. Set points at .016 then proceeded to timing. Used a dial indicator with rod setup through spark plug hole. Used a "dim" - "bright" bulb setup with battery to indicate points opening and closing. After holding the timing advance lever full open (247 type engine), rotated engine until light went from bright to dim (points opening), and measured distance to TDC on dial indicator. Service manual calls for timing to be .147 to .167 BTDC but after loosening three lock screws that advance/retard timing the most I can get is about .135 BTDC. Rechecked points (still .016), camshaft looks fine (no worn groove from points and no play when slid on crankshaft), even tried good used replacement camshaft from dealer. Crankshaft is not twisted, bent to alter timing. Advance timing lever operates smoothly and is properly aligned in camshaft slot when flywheel is installed. OEM to KIMPEX point sets not exactly the same? Any suggestions to explain this situation are appreciated!!

I did some work on it this past summer however, I didn't touch the engine. Now it doesn't seem to want to pull any gas. I can get it to run by spraying gas into the carb but that's about it. The gas is fresh. I pulled the carb off and can't seem to find any dirt. I ran a new fuel line from the tank to the carb without any luck. I can't find any leaks. I don't know what the carb setttings should be. What's a good starting point for settings? Any ideas out there?

Now I can get it to run but I can't get enough rpms to engage the clutch. I put a 40:1 mix in it could that b the problem?

I have a 1976 ski doo olympique snowmobile. It seems to be a very rare snowmobile because i can't find any other olympique sleds from this year that have a 440 engine, there seems to be many more versions with a 340cc engine. I would like to know if anybody has any experience or knows anything about this kind of snowmobile. I am looking to restore it since it seems to be so rare, but i am afraid to start the project because it has many things wrong with it and i may not be able to find parts for it. If anybody knows about any of these sleds for sale that i could use for parts or if there is any place that sells parts it would be appreciated.

The compression in both cylinders is 125 #'s. When I try to accelerate it smokes alot and only once and a while will accelerate. Almost like it's flooding. The air screw is set at 2 turns open. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Either its a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke.a 4 stroke would have a timing chain in the engine similar to a Honda xl dual sprt bike .intake ,compression,combustion and exhaust are the principle operating characteristics of a 4 stroke or 4 cycle motor.A 2 stroke wouldnt have a timing gear in it.every time the piston moves downward in the cylinder its considered a power stroke.If its oil injected cus some of the yamaha sleds were oil injected then there would be an oil tank for the oil.Hope this helps.

I recently received what I believe to be an early 1970's Yamaha 338D snowmobile. I haven't really looked at it yet as it is still sitting in the back of my truck until this coming morning when I have help getting it out. My question is, the sled has sat for over a year and needs a throttle cable, but I didn't even ask the previous owner, or even look for that matter yet, would this be a two cycle engine or a four cycle? I own a 1995 Artic Cat 340 Puma i lost the coils on the stator and had no spark. I purchased another coil which was after market. The holes that you screw into the stator plate wouldn't line up so i used a file and made the slots a little bigger so as to allow the coils to seat in place. I have lots of blue spark but while pulling the motor over sometime it kicks back hard .It makes an offer to start but won't start. On the stator plate there are 4 marks on the left side of the plate and 10 marks on the right side , in the owners manual it states that the timing is 16 degrees i am wondering how the marks are graduated. I have tried many different settings but still it won't start. any information that would be of use to me in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
