When you put them together warm the O rings in a warm cup of water and they will stretch over the connecting rod. When the two halves come together and you have the o rings on them they will NOT contact the crankshaft. This is correct there will be a small oil film created between them and the crank and this will keep the compression seperated from 1 side to the other. Good luck!
