Chocolate explained that well. You also have to remember, just prior to menses, your body is biologically preparing itself for pregnancy and a lot of hormones and chemicals in your body increase just before and during. When the egg is not fertilized and your period begins, your body eliminates the unused/unfertilized egg and those hormones and chemicals return to normal.

I ALWAYS gain up to average 5 lbs 2 days before and at least 2 days into menses. It ALWAYS goes completely away starting the 3rd or 4th day and after menses has stopped.

I've never know anyone who was healthy or relatively healthy and still got their monthly cycle who DID NOT experience weight gain and uncomfortable bloating during this time. It's normal.
