Jane,
I know about meds because I have been on several. I was also extremely scared about taking anything, but believe me when the Dr.s got it right, I felt like a new person. I have many friends who have been on different meds and the thing is that everybody responds differently. Wellbutrin in perfect for me, but my friend got a rash all over her body. Here is my experience:
Prozac - made me feel great, but I did gain weight
Years later when I tried Prozac again, I could not keep my eyes open, all I did was sleep.

Zoloft has been a wonder drug for me. Controls OCD tendencies. I have never had any side effects from zoloft, I even lost weight.
After I had my children, the zoloft didn't work as well so I went off it and onto effexor

Effexor: I would strongly NOT recommend. I felt ok on it, but not as good as zoloft, but 6 months in, my body broke out in a terrible rash and I had to discontinue. Terrible withdrawal - felt like a heroin addict detoxing (or how I'm guessing they would feel)
Right now I am taking Wellbutrin and zoloft. This combination is fantastic. I really feel like a "regular person" I was supervised through all my medications by Drs. as you will be, so that does reassure you.
I know that it is a difficult decision. I feel like a different person on/off meds. My life is not as perfect as happy smiling commercials, in fact this summer my ED was kicking in due to marital problems. The difference is the meds and my Dr help me to deal with life's problems much better. And I also say, better legal drugs than illegal, because I know a lot of depressed people reach for alcohol, pot, etc. At least with the meds they have a better chance of helping you. I wish you the best. I've been super busy, but checking the board here and there. I'll continue to check to see how you are. Be well PS I remember you from the other boards and I know everything will work out. You have a tremendously funny personality, and you have endured a lot of pain. You're in my prayers, and I've had a lot nowdays. Bye Sandy
