Subject: Ivan's Remnants

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the remnants of Ivan. Most of the models have it becoming stationary as it gets cut off by the high moving through the great lakes and then beginning to retrograde. Then the strong low progged for early-mid next week draws in it's moisture and sends it up the Mississippi Valley Tuesday-Wednesday. Not sure how likely this whole scenario is...but having it get cutoff seems reasonable given the strong high moving east. The big trough next week follows well with the bitter cold air that western Canada will see. Apparently, back in 1998, one of the storms that made landfall in Texas got cutoff and there were several rainy, damp, dreary days across the midwest.

I dont think you need a cutoff hurricane to produce several rainy, damp, dreary days across the midwest.

before ivan heads for jeanne, hes really doing a number in my area. tornado warnings and tornados reported all over today, continuing tonight, along with the flooding, we are expected to get 2-4" of rain here in the metro area, with 5"+ in the mountains, before all said and done.

I was out of town all weekend and the news in MI sucks, but I'm sure you've all heard Dulles got tornadoes (or something) at the airport? RDU got some too, or at least a 79mph gust, right when I was wanting to fly out. Needless to say, getting on the flight took forever, but Aneela has some nice damage photos of it. They had to close the Edy's Ice Cream shop because it got a leak :( I was really close to where it all happened in the terminal, but really didn't hear anything, and that was kinda disappointing. But it didn't rain out the football game.

It appears as though that Ivan is in fact affecting Florida again. It's remnant vortex moved it's way down the eastern seaboard and Florida is now seeing some scattered showers as a result. The Atlantic basin outlook on NHC gives some possibility to this redeveloping once the conditions over the Bahamas become more favorable in a few days.

While searching around on the web looking for that site we'd use in tropical to monitor the MJO, I came across a really cool satellite image of Ivan's eye making land fall.
