Hi Dave;
I'm up in Edmonton Alberta Canada right now as 'guest guitarist' rehearsing with a Canadian band for a show this weekend at the Mayfield Trade Center. A friend of mine let me use his computer to check the guest list and to answer your questions:

#1. Why wasn't Chuck playing rhythm from the beginning? Did he want to just concentrate on singing?
Chuck didn't play guitar when he and I first got together to start the band. As a matter of fact,
I just played rhythm guitar myself...I wasn't a 'lead' player. (and I'm still trying to do that) He just wanted to be a stand up 'crooner' .
Did he join the band after Danny already had the rhythm guitar spot?
No, Danny was #3 into the formation. Chuck and I talked to Danny about playing rhythmn with us so I could be freed up to try to learn lead.

#2. The liner notes on my copy of the 1st album don't mention Danny at all.Did he play on those tracks?
Yes, some of them.
Did Chuck?
Yes, some of them.
Did they switch off?
Danny left the group after our 1st summer tour of the midwest ballrooms (1959), so he left his guitar and amp with Chuck so I could help him learn chords, so yes you could say they "switched off" because our 1st album was released after Danny left.
I only hear George's lead and the rhythm guitar, and it sounds like the rhythm parts were all done by the same player, except maybe "Bulldog"-that sounds a little different.
Nope, that's Danny on Bulldog.

#3: I've heard that Uncle Sam made Eric an offer he couldn't refuse and he left the band.
Yes, Eric was the oldest and 1st one of us up that was 1-A for the draft of going into the service.
Can anyone talk about Eric's post-Fireballs career?
By the time Eric got discharged, we already had Doug Roberts well in place and we really didn't want
to go through the hassle of reorganizing again...we had commitments and dates on the books, and didn't
want to have to go through the hassle of re-training Eric, let alone give Doug up...he had became very valuable to us. Eric certainly had a different "style", but Doug was actually a better performing drummer.
He's just too classy a player not to have made a mark somewhere.
Sometimes being a classy player is not the complete ticket to being a successful musician...or anything else in this world. If it would have been as you say, he would have gone on to do much better things than Fireballs.
Blessings to you, and thank you for your interest and loyalty after all these years.
George Tomsco
