Just because everyone has a religion doesn't mean we're all fanatics. And it certainly doesn't mean that we should all have to live by the law of one religion. One nation under God wasn't written into the pledge until the age of MaCarthyism. It was added by people who were persecuting everyone who might not be Christian because as we all know if you not a Christian you must be a dirty Commie. < /sarcasm>
As for God being in the Declaration, sure our fore fathers were Christian men, but they made it clear that Religion and Government are not the same thing, and should never be the same thing. They didn't just found this country on the idea of freedom of religion to keep the atheists happy. To tell you the truth almost everyone at the time was Christian, so I ask you, why would they even bother with freedom of religion if everyone had the same religion and belief structure. Because our fore fathers were smart enough to see that there would come a time in the future when we we all held different beliefs and honestly, who wants to imagine there child or their grandchild being persecuted?
