I think you should ask how the "series finale" went down--it played like the show is over. Let' see: Mike & Nancy went to a college dorm party, Ed told Carol Molly read him her diary, & both Carol & Frankie issued Ed an ultimatum to choose. Ed decided he should be with Frankie, but when he went to find Carol to tell her, he couldn't find her. Along the way, he passed all the places that reminded him of he and Carol's time together. The gang was at Stuckeyville celebrating the 75th anniversary of the bowling alley. Ed had a conversation with Frankie that you could't hear, and Carol called on Molly's cell. Ed went to meet her at the same place they met three years ago. Ed told Carol he had decided to be with Frankie, that maybe she was right when she said he was in love with an idealized version of her. Then he told her that while he was trying to find her to tell her his decision, he realized he was in love with her, not the idealized version of her. He said he loved her, and they kissed as the fireworks went off at the bowling alley celebration. As much as I hate to admit it, it looks like the rumors we've been hearing are accurate: the show was obviously written with the assumption that the NBC execs don't plan to renew next year.
