Wendy,

I use to be a competitive bodybuilder and there are quite a few Christian competitors.

Personally I don't have a problem with Christian BBs simply because we have done exactly what God told us to do.

1. Take care of His temple as that is where His spirit resides. Therefore, we have cleaned it out and allow His spirit to move us unhindered by sickness, disease and obesity.

2. In the last days, many will be lovers of themselves. That also means they will be quick to judge others based upon what they feel about themselves. The fitness revolution is just heating up! Just look at all the Make over shows. People have fallen in love with themselves so much, which we were told would happen.

Being a Christian bb, allows us to create a body that will gain the respect when we go into all the world ( such as a worldly gym or fitness center where you can see many practicing the art of loving themselves) without fear of judgment. Remember what Paul said? He was a Jew to the Jews, a Greek to the Greeks and a Gentile to the Gentiles. He was going to do what it took to share the Gospel.

That is what we are called to do, so when you walk into a gym full of people so focused on their own physical beauty, it certainly helps for you to have a body they respect. These people are so judgmental they will not listen to the Gospel message from someone obese. There is no respect for those who are out of shape simply because the "gym people" feel they have no discipline or control, which we know is not totally true.

3. Romans 12:1 says that we are to offer our body as a living sacrifice and if you look at what kind of sacrifices God wants, then take a look at Malachi 1:8. God wants our very best, but not perfection since Christ was the only perfect sacrifice. But we should always strive to give to God what He has given to us to be good stewards of.

Bodybuilding is a great evangelistic tool. Lee Haney, 7 time Mr Olympia came to our local church and shared his testimony on how he told the Lord at 17 years of age, that if He would make him the worlds best bodybuilder, he would honor Him with his body. And he did just that by becoming 7 time Mr Olympia. After each win, Lee would kneel down on stage and offer a word of prayer and in kneeling would worship God right there on stage before thousands! Shouldn't we do the same?

So go ahead and train like a bodybuilder. God loves bodybuilding because it symbolizes the building of His temple in order to bring glory and honor to Him, according to the scriptures.

Thanks for stopping by. I certainly hope you will share more here with us and also share this message board with as many other people, Christians and non Christians alike and let's share the ministry of the Gospel in a new and exciting way.

God bless. Stay healthy stay strong.

JR Smith
