Subject: The Decision- Part Ten

Hello, everyone. I decided to go ahead and post part 10 since the adult board seems to have been silenced and those
of you who followed it, wanted to read the rest. I apologize to those of you who have not read the previous parts but
Because of the content of some of the parts, I could not post the story on this board. I will try to finish the story over
here unless the adult board comes back to life. I guess that means I need to keep it tame from here on out, so I'll do
my best. Happy Holidays to everyone.

The Decision-Part 10

Upon hearing his grandmothers’ stern voice, Mike immediately froze in his attempt to leave the conference room with
Carrie. He lowered his head and slumped his shoulders in defeat. He knew Alice was not happy about his outburst.
He slowly turned around to face the music. “Grandma, I’m sorry I yelled, but I just don’t want to discuss this
anymore. Please try to understand.”

“Michael, I do understand. I understand that you’re upset about this whole situation, but…..”

“But what, Grandma? I made my bed and now I have to lie in it. Is that what you’re going to say?” Mike was
beginning to get angry again.

Laura turned towards her son. “Mike Horton, don’t you dare speak to your grandmother in that tone of voice.”

Mike looked at Alice. “I’m sorry Grandma, but everyone is acting like I’m a 6 year old and need to be told what to
do.”

“Michael, I was not going to say anything or tell you what to do. I merely wanted to ask you a question.”

Mike looked sheepishly at this grandmother. “ I’m sorry. What’s your question, Grandma?”

“Well dear, I merely wanted to know what you meant when you said ‘the sex life of Mike and Carrie Horton’. Why
did you call her Horton? Is there something you two aren’t telling us?”

Mike looked at Carrie and Carrie looked at Mike. Jennifer rushed forward with a huge grin on her face. “Oh my
God! Mike you did it, didn’t you? You asked Carrie to marry you. Oh, Carrie, this is so great. We’re going to be
sisters just like we always planned. Oh, gosh, speaking of planning we have so much to do to plan your wedding. We
need to get dresses and a place for the reception and music. Oh I almost forgot did you pick a date?”

Carrie grabbed Jen’s shoulder. “Jen, wait, wait a minute. You’ve got it all wrong. Mike didn’t ask me to marry him.”

Jen’s enthusiasm came to a crashing halt. Her confused face looked from her brother to Carrie and back to her
brother. “You didn’t ask her Mike?”

Mike looked at his sister with a slight smile on his face. “No, Jen, I didn’t ask her. She didn’t give me a chance to.”

Jennifer was still in a state of puzzlement. “What do you mean she didn’t give you a chance to?”

“I asked him first, Jen.”

Marlena stood up from the conference room table. She had not dared to speak after Carrie and Mike’s empassioned
defense of their relationship a few moments ago, but could not hold her tongue any longer after the announcement
Carrie had just made. “What do you mean, YOU asked Mike to marry you? You’re already married or have you
forgotten that? Don’t you think it might be a good idea to end your first marriage before you jump into another one?
Carrie, this is not like you, not at all”.

“You’re absolutely right Marlena. I should end my marriage to Austin first, and, as a matter of fact, I’ve already done
that.” Carrie turned to Mike, smiling like a Cheshire cat. “And then I immediately asked Mike to marry me and he
said yes.” Mike’s face beamed with love as their eyes locked on hers.

Carrie continued, “And I’m not rushing into another marriage. It’s taken me a long time to admit that I rushed into my
marriage with Austin, and it was for all the wrong reasons. And all that time I was married to Austin I realized that I
had fallen in love with my best friend and if I hadn’t married Austin, I’m sure I would have figured out who I was
really in love with. So to me, this marriage isn’t sudden. It’s a long time coming.”

Laura moved towards her son. “Well then, I suppose that congratulations are in order on your engagement. So…
have you two set a date yet on when this wedding will take place?”

Mike smiled and looked at Carrie. “Yeah, we already set a date?”

Alice prompted Mike to spill the beans. “So…. Do you mind telling us when it is?”

Mike looked at his grandmother. “Sure, Grandma, we’ll tell you. Our date is April 5, 1999.”

Everyone looked to be mulling this date over in their mind when Jennifer grabbed Mike’s arm. “Wait a minute. Mike,
that was this past Saturday.”

Mike smiled at his sister and chuckled a bit. “So it was. Boy, Jen, I can’t put anything past you can I?”

Mickey looked from Maggie, who’s mouth was open, and back to Mike. “Son, let me see if I understand this.
You’re telling us that you and Carrie got married on Saturday, as in the Saturday that just past, 2 days ago?”

Mike laughed at his Dad’s expression. “Yeah, Dad, that’s exactly what I’m saying.”

Shock was evident on every face in the conference room as it became deafeningly silent. No one said a word, but
instead looked to the faces of the others in the room to see if they had indeed heard this news correctly.

Mike and Carrie stood there watching the surprised faces of their family. They nervously looked at each other when
no one spoke, and were anticipating the fallout at any moment.

Alice was first to break the silence. “Well… I guess you answered my question Mike. I’ll admit it wasn’t exactly the
answer I expected, but it certainly explains the looks you two have been giving each other and why you’ve been so
adamant that you weren’t involved in an affair.”

“I’m sorry if our news comes as a shock. We didn’t plan to tell everyone this way. Mike and I wanted to invite
everyone to dinner and explain how it all happened. We thought we’d have a couple of days to plan how to break the
news, but with this picture….”

Jennifer picked up the newspaper. “But with the picture, I guess you had to break your news. What I don’t get is that
I talked to you on Saturday morning Mike and you didn’t say anything to me about this. Why the deception?”

“Jennifer, I didn’t deceive you. What I told you Saturday morning was everything that I was feeling at that time. I
didn’t know that Carrie and I were going to get married. Carrie told me on the way to Las Vegas that she and Austin
were legally divorced.”

Marlena walked up to Carrie completely shocked. “Is this all true Carrie? Are you and Austin legally divorced and
you and Mike really married?”

“Yes, Marlena. It’s all true. That’s what we’ve been trying to say, but no one would let us explain. Austin and I were
legally divorced as of Saturday morning and Mike and I were legally married as of Saturday afternoon. ”

“Saturday morning? Well I guess that explains what Austin had to tell Sami.”

“What do you mean, Marlena?”

“Austin came by the penthouse Saturday, around noon. He had an envelope in his hand and said he needed to talk to
Sami. He seemed upset, but only wanted to talk to Sami. John and I were on our way out, and when we got back,
Sami left us a note saying she, Austin and Will had gone up to Green Mountain Lodge for couple of days.”

“Well, I’m not surprised that Austin would run to Sami.”

“Carrie, you know Austin and Sami have become very good friends after their ordeal. Of course he would talk to her.
You weren’t here. But the fact remains that Austin was obviously upset that you divorced him. I know that he loves
you. He told me so.”

“Marlena, maybe in his way he does love me. But he was never there for me when I needed him. Even before we got
married, Sami always came first and I came second. Well, I’m tired of that. I need someone I can talk to, someone to
love me and put me first and not just when it’s convenient. I’m sorry if he’s hurting, but I’m sure once he thinks about
it, he’ll realize that we grew apart. There was no way our relationship could have survived. There was simply too
many people in it and he chose to support Sami rather than me. He made his choice and I made mind.” Carrie put her
arm around Mike. “I truly hope that you’ll be happy for us. I know in my heart that I made the right decision.”
Alice watched the exchange between Carrie and Marlena. “Well, with that said, I think it’s time to welcome the
newest Horton to the family.” Alice held out her arms and Carrie willingly walked into her embrace. “Welcome to the
family dear.”

Carrie smiled genuinely at Alice. “Thank you Alice. And I promise you, I’ll take very good care of your grandson.”

“Oh, dear, considering what I’ve seen in this paper, I have no doubts that you’ll take very good care of my
grandson.” Alice winked at Carrie, who giggled, and then looked at Mike, who was scarlet.

Mike looked back at Alice, totally embarrassed. “Grandma.”

Alice laughed at her grandson’s expression. “Oh, Michael, don't give me that look.”

Everyone burst into giggles and came up and congratulated Mike and Carrie.
