"Oh, you are dead, you are so..." Carrie laughed, dodging her way out of his grasp, smushing a snowball in his face before running past him.

"I'm sorry, I take it back," she pleaded frantically as Mike grabbed the back of her coat, his arms closing around her from behind.

"Oh, no, no, you don't..." Carrie let out a shriek as they tumbled into the snow, laughing.

Carrie looked up at Mike. Some of this must be real, or my imagination is definitely working overtime.

Mike looked down at her. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah," Carrie answered softly, her smile widening as she looked up into his eyes. "Everything's just fine."

************************************************

Marlena and John led the way into the room, smiling happily at the sea of faces already at the party. The Bradys and Hortons had wanted to throw a party for Carrie getting out
of the hospital, and had finally managed to find a night to get everybody together a couple of weeks after Carrie made it home.

Carrie hung back a little as John and Marlena were greeted warmly by numerous hugs. Marlena saw Carrie's discomfort and took her arm, leading her into the crowd. "Honey,
these are your grandparents Caroline and Shawn Brady."

Shawn laid his hands on Carrie's shoulders, smiling down at her warmly. "We wanted to come see ya at the penthouse, darlin', but they told us you'd be better served getting
some rest and being on your own for a bit."
Carrie smiled back at him instantly, his charming Irish brougue making her feel more at ease. "We love ya, darlin', and we missed ya, so we decided to throw you a famous
Brady-Horton bash to welcome you back home and to give praise that you'll be all right."

Carrie nodded. "Thank you...Grandpa."

Shawn smiled down at her before enveloping her in a hug. "The sound of them words is music to these old ears."

Carrie was immediately surrounded by a crowd, everybody giving her hugs and welcoming her back. She felt strange having to ask people she'd known all her life who they
were, but they all reassured her, making her feel at ease quickly.

When she finally emerged from the circle of people a while later, she spotted Mike leaning against a wall, watching her with a lopsided grin.

She headed over to him. "Well, good evening, Dr. Horton. I was wondering what happened to you."

Mike shrugged. "I promised ya I'd be here, didn't I?"

Carrie smiled. "Yeah, you did." She looked over her shoulder at the noisy crowd behind her. "I could use a bit of a breather, how 'bout you?"

Mike nodded. "Sure. Let's go out on the terrace and get some air." Carrie followed behind him, stepping out in front of him into the cool night air. She stepped up to the railing,
taking in a deep breath.

Mike's eyes went to the sky. "Looks like it might rain."

Carrie turned to face him, shrugging. "Oh, well. Let's just stay out here, anyway. I love the smell of rain."

"You always did. When you were a kid...." He trailed off, embarrassed. "You must think it's strange that I remember all this stuff."

"No, Mike, please, go on."

He stared off into space as he continued. "When you were a kid, I remember you used to run out into rainstorms and kick around in the puddles. You never seemed to mind
getting wet, but Jen always wanted to stay in the house."

The music inside got softer, giving way to a gentle melody. Mike held out his hand to her. "May I have this dance?"

Carrie looked at Mike's hand, then up into his eyes.

~Something in your eyes makes me wanna lose myself; makes me wanna lose myself...in your arms...~

"Carrie..it's okay..." he whispered softly.

~there's something in your voice... makes my heart beat fast; hope this feeling lasts...the rest of my life...~

Carrie laid her hand tentatively in his, drawn into his arms by the warmth emanating from his eyes.
Mike's hand slid around her waist, and Carrie rested her hand on his shoulder. She blushed shyly, dropping her eyes away from his unwavering gaze. The embarrassed smile on
her lips disappeared as her eyes moved back up to his, their gazes locking.

~If you knew how lonely my life has been, and how long I've been so alone; if you knew how I've wanted someone to come along..and change my life the way you've
done...~

Carrie stopped swaying, releasing Mike's hand and looping her arms around his shoulders, her head resting against his neck. They stood motionless for a moment, then Carrie's
eyes slid shut with a silent sigh as Mike's arms closed around her.

~It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me; it feels like I'm all the way back where I come from...~

Mike heard Carrie's gentle laughter, and she leaned back in his arms after a long moment. "What?" he asked.

She shook her head. "It's just I... This...it all seems so..." an unconscious smile formed on her lips. "..familiar, somehow." She leaned her head on Mike's shoulder, cuddling into
his arms. Mike rested his cheek against her hair, rocking her gently.

~It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me; it feels like I'm all the way back where I belong...~

"I feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be..." she said softly.

The words tugged at Mike's heart. "You are," he murmured against her hair.
Carrie lifted her head, meeting Mike's gaze. He leaned closer, his eyes falling to her lips as he cradled her cheek gently against his palm.

Their lips touched in a soft whisper of a kiss. Carrie reached up, her fingers encircling his wrist in a unconscious request for him to continue. Carrie barely felt the raindrops as
they began to hit her bare shoulders. They leaned closer to each other, neither wanting to break the contact.

"...Am I really being faithful to him if I have you in my heart? Because no matter what I do, I can't stop thinking about you."

"I can't stop thinking about you, either..."

Carrie tilted her chin, tentatively bringing her lips to his. Her umbrella dropped to the ground as their arms closed around each other, the kiss intensifying.

Carrie pulled back, her fingertips touching her lips as she stared up at Mike in amazement. "Oh, my God..." she whispered.

Remember Me- Part 7

"I can't stop thinking about you either..."

Carrie stared up at Mike in silence. The raindrops glistened against her hair in the dim light.

Mike's heart tightened as a soft smile touched her lips, the memory coming back instantly, washing over him. She looked just like she had that night outside the Cheatin' Heart...
Still in a daze, Mike automatically reached a hand to her face. "You look so beautiful," he whispered reverently, his fingertips brushing her cheek. "just like.."

"...that night in the alleyway."

Mike's mouth dropped open, his hand going still. He opened his mouth to speak, then hesitated. "You remember."

Carrie blinked up at him in surprise. "I remember," she repeated, sounding surprised at her own words. She stared over his shoulder, a sudden realization hitting her as her hand
dropped over her heart. "It was real," Carrie whispered in stunned disbelief. "That last night we were together in your office...it was real, wasn't it?" Her hand fell from her lips,
resting over her heart. Her next words came out in an awestruck whisper. "We're in love with each other, aren't we?"

Mike could only look at her, his eyes betraying what his heart was begging him to tell her.

Carrie's smile slowly grew, her eyes softening. She threw her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. The look in his eyes told her everything. "It's real," she said softly. "I can
feel it." She pulled back, clasping his hands in hers. "I could from the beginning. I didn't know what it was then, or where it was coming from, but somewhere inside me... I could
feel it."

Mike shook his head in amazement, smoothing her wet hair back from her face. He remembered himself, his fingers curling into a fist as he pulled his hand back. "Carrie, all these
memories are a lot to deal with. You can never be sure if you can trust what you remember."

Carrie reached up, laying her hand against his cheek. "Mike, how I feel about you is the only thing I've remembered in this whole jumbled mess that I've been able to trust. I
knew that the day when I first saw you again at the hospital. You looked into my eyes, and...somehow, I could tell it was all going to be okay."

Mike's eyes closed, his forehead resting against hers. He swallowed hard, clasping both her hands in his and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I do love you, Carrie." He looked
down into her eyes. "I love you so much."

Carrie blinked back the tears that threatened, a beautiful smile blossoming as she threw her arms around him, holding him tightly.

She leaned back in his arms, her fingers tracing over his cheek and across his jaw to his lips. Her hand stilled as the lights from inside struck the diamond on her finger, shooting
pinpoints of fire around them. Her smile died, her eyes moving up to Mike's. He captured her hand, threading their fingers together, kissing her hand before returning his gaze to
hers. "What do you want, Carrie?" he asked gently, holding her hand to his heart. "Don't think about anybody or anything else. What do you want?"

She looked down at her ring, then back up into Mike's eyes.

~How do I, get through one night without you; if I had to live without you, what kind of life would that be...~

The music floated around them through the rain, the words somehow seeming so familiar...

Mike turned up the radio and hopped out of the convertible, holding the door open and offering a gentlemanly hand to help Carrie out. He spun her around, releasing
her hand and bumping the door closed with his hip.
Carrie let out a little giggle as Mike took her in his arms. They held each other close, the stars sparkling in a brilliant display above them.

A soft smile came to her lips as the tears pricked at her eyes. "You," she answered simply, her voice hoarse with emotion as she reached an unsteady hand to his face. "Just you."

Mike kissed her palm before pulling her into his arms. He kissed her temple, pulling her tighter. "I love you, Carrie."

Carrie smiled, her heart at peace. "I love you, too."

*************************************************

Mike led Carrie back inside, closing the door behind them. The smile died on Mike's lips as his eyes screeched to a halt on a new face in the crowded room.

Carrie looked up at him, puzzled. "Mike, what is it?"

"We have an unexpected guest," he answered quietly.
