Part Three

Carrie Brady still was standing in front of the mirror, confused as to what she should do. Carrie glanced at the clock.
A half hour had passed. Carrie knew that everyone was probably wondering where she was. Carrie chuckled to
herself. Had this day come much sooner, she would have been down that aisle in a heartbeat. Today was different.
She wasn't as excited as she thought she would be. Carrie had always dreamed of marrying Austin, but now that
dream wasn't as important to her anymore. She still loved Austin, but since they had been apart for so long, she felt
she didn't know him anymore. They had grown apart. Carrie knew that Austin was going through a difficult time right
now because he now knew the truth about the paternity of Will. Carrie was very angry with Sami for lying to Austin.
"I can't believe my sister would do something so low," Carrie muttered to herself.
Carrie sighed. She glanced at the clock one more time. She knew what she had to do. As Carrie turned to walk
toward the door, it opened. She was face to face with Mike.
"Hi, Carrie. You probably don't want to see me right now, but Austin sent me to check on you. Is everything ok?
Everyone is worried about you, and Sami is probably plotting her next attack. Are you going to marry Austin or
what?" Mike asked her.
Carrie took Mike's hand and pulled him into the room. She closed the door and turned to face Mike.
"I know I have to make a decision, Mike, but I need to know something," Carrie said.
"Sure, what is it?" Mike asked.
"Why did you suggest postponing the wedding? I kept thinking about that, Mike. What is your real reason for wanting
me to wait?" Carrie asked, gazing into his eyes.
"Carrie, I just said that because it doesn't make any sense for two people to rush into marriage when they don't even
know each other that well or haven't been around each other in awhile. You have changed, and I'm sure Austin has
changed too. All I want is for you to be happy, Carrie. Your happiness means more than anything to me. You're a
good person, Carrie, and you deserve the best," Mike said.
Carrie smiled.
"Come here," she said, opening her arms. Mike walked closer and engulfed her in his arms and held her tight. Mike
closed his eyes, savoring every minute of being in the arms of the woman he loved so much.
Carrie closed her eyes and rested her cheek against his chest. She could hear his heart beating. Carrie had never felt
so comfortable and safe as she did right then.
"This feels so right," Carrie whispered, not realizing she has spoken her thoughts aloud.
"What did you say?" Mike asked. Carrie gazed up at him. She was at a loss for words. Mike gazed back at her.
Their faces were just inches apart. Carrie felt her heart beat faster. If she moved the slightest bit, she would be kissing
him. Then a strange feeling washed over Carrie. She remembered her dream in the cabin. That kiss had seemed so
real. Carrie moved closer to Mike. She had to find out for herself if that kiss was real.
Mike was having a difficult time controlling his emotions and feelings. He moved his lips closer to hers. Carrie didn't
pull away. Slowly he brushed his lips across hers. Mike's heart leapt for joy when she responded with just as much
passion. Her hands cupped his face as he kissed her. As the kiss grew more intense, Carrie knew something was
familiar about it. It was as if it had happened before. And it happened right in the cabin. Carrie suddenly pulled away
and gazed up at Mike, her eyes wide.
"It was really you!" Carrie said breathlessly.
"Carrie, what are you talking about?" Mike asked.
"When we were in the cabin, I thought that kiss was just a really good dream. How could I have thought it was about
Austin? It was you the whole time, talking to me and kissing me."
Mike sighed and looked away.
"Yes, it was me. Are you disappointed, Carrie?"
"Not at all, Mike. Now I realize what you were trying to tell me all along. You have feelings for me," Carrie said.
Mike took Carrie's hands into his.
"Yes, Carrie. I love you very much. I didn't realize how much I loved you until I almost lost you in that car crash. I
tried to tell you when I was bit by that snake. I tried to tell you on the train, and I tried to tell you earlier. Carrie, I am
crazy about you. The reason why I wanted you to postpone your wedding was so that you could get reacquainted
with Austin and get to know me better. I wanted you to see that you had another option. I wanted you to look
beyond Austin and realize that there are other men out there who would love to have a chance to be with you."
Carrie smiled up at him.
"Well, where do we go from here?" Carrie asked.
"Well, this," Mike said. He kissed her gently on the lips. It was the sweetest kiss Carrie had ever received. She threw
her arms around Mike and kissed him back with all the fervor she didn't know she had. All the memories came back
to her. She realized that she too had begun to have feelings for Mike. She hadn't allowed those feelings to grow
deeper because she had always thought she should be with Austin. Carrie felt differently now.
Just then the door swung open, startling Carrie and Mike. They pulled apart and glanced at each other with guilty
expressions on their faces, and then they glanced at the person standing in the doorway.
