You can't really enter the Sphinx until you've explored both the mazes on Mars - they're fairly simple when you get used to them. At the back of the Mars room there are two doors with crystals beside them (one is near the main entrance, the other is at the other end of the hall). You need the ladder (from near the hostel on Mars) to reach the crystal, which turns on the music. Then another person (I think) opens the door. That gets you in one door, then you can explore the maze. The other door has a broken crystal, so you need a recording of the music - one of the girls has a boom box and you can get tape in the camper van space ship. In these days of MP3s, putting tape over a cassette isn't a very obvious thing to do! The you need to press play and record, etc. as needed. Once in the mazes there are two rooms that matter - one has oxygen, the other has the map and sphinx drawing. Hope this helps!
