I kissed Regine on the lips!

"Para pa rin akong nananaginip." This is what I always tell those who care to ask me what I make of my life now, a far departure from the one that I used to have.
There are moments still when I even have to pinch myself as if to convince me that this life is real. Ang hirap kasi paniwalaan na halos naabot ko na ang mga pinapangarap ko lang noon. I remain to be starstruck even to this day. It is still so hard to digest the fact that I get to work with the superstars of our local entertainment industry, sing with them and be given the same treatment. Imagine, I already had the chance to sing with the likes of Lea Salonga, Kuh Ledesma, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Pops Fernandez, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, etc. It is extremely awesome for a person who comes from my background. If anybody told me I’d be in this position five years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it for sure. But hey, dreams do come true. I am a perfect validation.
These moments are best illustrated in experiences like the one I just had with Ms. Regine Velasquez. While it is already an expressed privilege for me to be able to sing with her, be around her and enjoy her company in shows here and abroad, my dream-like state extended to an opportunity to kiss her. On the lips, at that!
Never in my wildest dreams, but it really happened while we were shooting for the music video of my latest single "Bakit Ba Inibig Ka" off my "Loving You Now" album under Star Records. Two other singles have come out of that album, "I Will Never Leave You" and "Goodbye Is Not Forever." Soon, I’ll be coming up with my next album, watch out for it.
The music video of "Bakit Ba Inibig Ka" was directed by Joyce Bernal. I was asked to be at the venue, a house in Commonwealth for the shoot, at 10 a.m. I knew Ate Reg (that’s how he fondly calls Regine, ed.) was to be my guest artist in the video and she was to come in the afternoon, they told me beforehand. After all, the song was also a duet with her and it was just so nice of Ate Reg to say yes to doing the video as well.
Ate Reg arrived at 2 p.m. and immediately after, they briefed me that there was to be a kissing scene. Parang gusto kong himatayin sa nerbiyos noong nalaman ko! I didn’t at all expect that. And so with a lot of anxiety, nerves, tension manifested by profuse sweating, a lot of blushing, and much of shaking, the shoot proceeded.
The first scene was not exactly a kissing scene yet but even in that one, I had a terribly hard time. I was a nervous wreck! The instruction was for my head to come ever so slowly closer to Ate Reg’s until we are face to face, but we had to do a lot of takes on that one because my discomfort registers on screen. Pulang-pula daw ako at nakikita nilang nanginginig ang kamay ko.
I am very thankful that Ate Reg was very considerate. She helped me a lot by making me feel very much at ease. She gave me tips on how to do it, and most of all, to remove all inhibitions by stripping myself of anything subjective in my head and to look at the entire exercise in the point of view of a professional. This is just work, I reminded myself, and if I want to be the best that I can be, this one I have to do right.
That kept me comfortable. The kissing scene was not just a smack, nor was it anything of the torrid kind. It was something in between and it was to serve as the embodiment of the love and passion shared by two people who thought there was no chance for them anymore.
After direk Joyce shouted "Cut! Good take!" I was more appreciative of my work more than ever before. I have passed the test, that was foremost in my head.
And settling down to my subjective nature one more time, I just basked in the glory of the fact that I was able to kiss Ms. Regine Velasquez on the lips! I will never ever forget that day.
