I mused one night

there once was a small boat
floating on the forever sea
bobbing up and down.....seemingly forever
it had become the way the days went
one after the other....each day the same
early on....hope of land was strong
early on.....hope itself was the wind that blew into the sails
but as the days became weeks and the weeks months
although the sails were filled
they were wandering breezes
sometimes to the left....sometimes to the right
then direction as well as time were lost
bobbing and bobbing...day after day
this simply was how life was.....
the storms came and went...and really
storms became a welcomed turn of events
something to struggle with....the calm days were the worst
even the bobbing ceased...
one day....a bird, then two, then more
but birds had come before
don't hope....it hurts too much
don't wish....it turns the sails still
but this day...the birds seemed endless
then it was there.....a cove, a shelter, a home
and when enough time passed and the cove was even closer
the little boat dared to believe
that maybe just maybe there was a chance
sailing in....amazed that on all sides....firm land was apparent
anchor finally dropped
the little boat finally slept
the last words spoken
if this is a dream......don't shake me awake
