Two Spanish-language shows have had some interesting kayoes recently:
On "Complices Al Rescate", with separate 90-minute episodes airing Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8:30 on Univision (channel 41), the show's young female pop star Belinda plays lookalike characters who have a psychic bond (she also played two roles in her earlier series "Aventuras En El Tiempo" which stopped airing in the same time slot some weeks ago). This past weekend, the (apparent) mother of the richer "twin" tricked her by setting up living quarters in her basement for her, then locking her in so she couldn't escape. Meanwhile, a male accomplice sneaks up behind the other twin and chloroforms her at an amusement park, then carries her limp body to a nearby car and the villains drive off with her. She comes to when they arrive at the mother's house and screams but is handled roughly and hushed as she is locked in an upstairs bedroom. She tries a psychic link to ask her "twin" for help, but that twin has problems of her own: She tried to stand on some books atop a table to escape her basement tomb through a high window, but the table collapsed and she hit her head, too busy being knocked out to respond to the mind meld. When she comes to, her head is bleeding, and the "mother" laughs it off as serving her right for trying to escape. Of course, what's really going on in this story beats me. I don't speak Spanish.
No translation was necessary for the occurrence on last night's "Prisionera", airing at 8 p.m. on Telemundo (channel 47). Earlier there had been some storyline where a villainess had kayoed a young girl and ultimately left her in a car on railroad tracks, but she was rescued and the villainess captured. Last night, in custody, she was seemingly unconscious in a hospital bed when a young nurse arrives. Through the villainess's strange powers, there are computer-animated flying insects over the bed, which piques the nurse's curiosity. She is caught off guard as the woman awakes and grabs her by the neck, suspending her feet high off the floor, until they are seen going limp. After cutting back from another scene elsewhere, we see another nurse enter only to find the bed empty and the first nurse out cold in her underwear on the floor facedown. The villainess clocks out of the hospital in the nurses' uniform.
Just about the identical events occur off-camera in the "Buffy" episode that airs this Saturday night (8/14) at 1 a.m., "This Year's Girl", when the still-evil Faith awakens from her coma induced from her last encounter with the Slayer, and is intruded upon by an unsuspecting young Asian nurse, whom she lures out of the room for what happens to her. Later, we just see hospital security at the scene of Faith's escape, saying "We just found an unconscious woman in the next room ... She's been stripped!"
On Raw this week, after a six-woman tag match (Stacy Keibler, Victoria and Nidia vs. Molly Holly, Gail Kim and Jazz), Trish appeared and made a suggestion that all six combatants seemed to like. I thought they might want to give the girls in the divas contest a taste of the hard knocks they had better get used to. Unfortunately, it was just a challenge that Bischoff approved that the seven remaining contest girls would face the seven established divas in a volleyball match at SummerSlam this Sunday.
Tonight (Thurs. 8/12) is a replay of the Celebrity Boxing special where Darva Conger and Joanie Laurer had matches, at 8:30 p.m. on FOX, just after an "Alien vs. Predator" special. Tomorrow (Fri. 8/13), an hourlong show of "Impact! Wrestling" airs on FSN at 3 p.m.; And at 11:30 p.m., ESPN2 airs an hour of karate shows. As for the Olympics, women's judo is scheduled to be included on Bravo weeknights all next week at midnight each night from Monday thru Thursday and at 5 p.m. on Friday. Also, women's fencing is Tuesday within 5 to 8 p.m. on Bravo. There are complete listings of events at the front of TV Guide, but I'm surprised I don't see a listing for wrestling, as women are participating now.
Talk shows: Tonight-Kilborn with Carmen Electra; Friday-Kelly Ripa on Wayne Brady; Halle Berry on David Letterman; Pam Anderson on Jay Leno (airing one hour later because of the Olympics). Also this weekend on Court TV, the show "Hollywood Justice" follows the legal encounters of Shannen Doherty, airing Saturday at 11:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m., and Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Shannon will also play Brooke Burns' sister for at least three episodes on FOX's "North Shore", starting Mon. 9/20.
Kayo babes in movies on Monday 8/16: Kristy Swanson kayoed briefly near the end of "Red Water" (TBS 8 a.m.), Reese Witherspoon spied sleeping in her underwear in "Fear", also with a sexy Alyssa Milano (WLNY ch. 55 at 8 p.m.); Donna D'Errico in "Candyman 3" (Sci-Fi at 11 p.m.); not sure of a kayo of Shannen Doherty in "Portrait of Murder" (TBS at 3 a.m.); and Captain Kirk punches out trusting Angelique Pettyjohn in the "Star Trek" episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion" at 3 a.m. on Sci-Fi.
