Hi Joao,

yes a good letter - and you have understood that the statistics are taken as a spot check they dont represent how many men will get phimosis during their entire lives. there are several points I could make - but - why are you researching?

incidence or prevalence - wots the difference? - maybe frequency is the right word?

also the statistics do not show how many men have phimosis in the erect state - neither does it measure the frequency of frenulum breve

most of your questions have never been studied scientifically --- convince me that you understand the nature of phimosis and I will write more --- My guess is that most men with secondary phimotic ring want it cured pretty much straight away because they notice the difference - those with primary phimosis often dont realise - get used to what they have and never notice the difference and it can be years before they think about treatment.

I wrote in realistic statistics.

How to arrive at Realistic Statistics.

What would give us really realistic statistics would be a survey on a group of men who were 80 yrs. old and over. Most older men will not be concerned about the social stigma and thus more likely to tell the truth, especially when they learn that by recording their experience it could help youngsters. Maybe with the skin shrinkage, by the time a man is 100 yrs. old, practically every male needs a surgical correction... ? It would be interesting to make a test survey on a group of old age pensioners. How many were circumcised, when, why... and remember to ask if they consider retraction necessary ...

so thats all for now

cheers
robin
