RN who has been working state side since 1988. I am enrolled in an online MLIS program starting Spring 2007. It goes for 2 years.
Question: has anyone seen anyone do this ? My rational is that I like books and libraries. As well I think I will be extremely well qualified for a job in a medical library.

Bravo for you! Nurses are in such high demand these days why do you want to switch careers? If you have your reasons, read on.
I started off as a medical librarian, and worked in that capacity for a good five years before getting into systems librarianship.
I think any university that supported a school of nursing would love to get an RN as a librarian. Don't expect anything close to RN salaries, though. :)
Also, never tell a medical library or any library employer outside of the pure humanities these days that you want to become a librarian because you love books. Everything in the health sciences is purely electronic these days, and being able to cope with constant change and technology saavy is of primary importance, even ahead of subject knowledge that you would bring to a job.
