A internet comemorou ontem seu 20� anivers�rio. Em 1� de janeiro de 1983, a Arpanet (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), rede de dados do Departamento de Defesa dos EUA, fez sua migra��o para o protocolo TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol).

A tecnologia permitiu que milh�es de computadores pudessem se conectar entre si e substituiu a chamada NCP (Network Control Protocol), que restringia a mil o n�mero de m�quinas que podiam ser ligados em rede. O TCP/IP foi criado por Vinton Cerf e Robert Kahn.

"A data de origem mais l�gica para a cria��o da internet � 1� de janeiro de 1983, quando a Arpanet oficialmente migrou do protocolo NCP para o atual TCP/IP", disse Bob Braden, um dos pioneiros da internet, na lista de e-mails da Internet Engineering Task Force.

Segundo ele, seis meses depois a Arpanet foi dividida em duas redes --a Arpanet e a Milnet (rede militar)--, ambas conectadas por gateways. "Ainda deve haver camisetas por a� com os dizeres: 'Eu sobrevivi � transi��o para o TCP/IP'", brincou o especialista.
