Subject: Public Memorial details from John on FB 8/15/14

Hi again everyone. I have finally got details to share with you all on the Public Memorial for Raven. It will be in Pavilion 5 at Shikellamy State Park, in Sunbury PA on Saturday, September 6. I have the pavilion for the whole day, but my intention is to be there from 6-8 PM to allow people to travel - and to get past the busiest part of the day in the park. If this is too late for you, please send me a Private Message here, and if I get enough, I'll adjust the time accordingly. Because I really have no idea how many people will show up, I am not planning on providing food. However, over the last year or so, Raven really grew attached to something called "The Ginger People's Ginger Beer." This is a soda, like a Ginger Ale. It's delicious, all natural, and she found the real ginger in it helped settle her stomach after chemotherapy. She sort of stocked up on it, so I'll be bringing a few cases of that as a refreshment. I intend this to be a casual, informal event, for her friends to meet each other and share memories. I am not planning on having any sort of formal service, however, anyone wanting to say a few words is welcome to do so.

A couple of additional notes on the location:

Pavilion 5 is located in the Overlook Section of Shikellamy State Park. It sits up on top of a hill overlooking the Confluence of the North and West Branches of the Susquehanna River.

Directions from the North and I-80: take US 15 South from Interstate 80. About 15 miles south of I-80, turn Left on County Line Road (there is a directional sign to the park here), the entrance to the park is about 5 miles on the Left.

Directions from the South and Harrisburg: Take US 11/15 North from the Harrisburg Area. US 11/15 will split north of Selinsgrove. Stay on US 15. About 2 miles past the split, turn Right on County Line Road (there is a directional sign to the park here) the park entrance is about 5 miles on the left.

Once you're in the park, follow the park road up to the top of the hill. It will split and begin a one way loop. Pavilion 5 is on the right, just past the split. The park road is steep, narrow and winding, so please go slow.

Please be aware that Shikellamy State Park comes in two pieces, and that there is a "Marina Area" located between the cities of Sunbury and Northumberland on Route 147. If you somehow end up there by mistake, stop at the park office. It will be closed, but there's a box with park brochures outside the office door with a map in it. I'm noting this because Google Maps and Mapquest tend to get the two areas confused.

This is a state park, so you'll want to dress accordingly. We will be doing this rain or shine - the pavilion should be reasonably dry if it rains.

For those of you with children, they are welcome - there is a playground a short walk from the Pavilion. Pets are also welcome - however leash laws apply.

For those of you who would like to stop for a bite to eat, there are multiple fast food and nicer establishments along US 15 in Selinsgrove and also in Lewisburg depending on the direction you come from.

Please note that Pennsylvania State Parks prohibit alcohol.

Finally, the park website (including a map) is here:

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/shikellamy/index.htm

I think that's about it. Please send me a private message here if you have questions.

I look forward to meeting those of you who are able to make the trip.

John

Thank you for doing this; I can't imagine what you must be going through.

Is there anything I can bring, or help you with?

I look forward to meeting the person who stood by this strong woman through all the pain and occasional triumphs.

I am sure you will have a large turnout, she had a LOT of people pulling for her.

Take care.

Hi, John. Cinci-nancy here.

Just wanted to say again how sorry I am for your loss. And how nice it was to meet the famous John.

I know we had a stormy afternoon, but I also know it cleared up before we were through. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Thank you for putting the memorial together. I know it wasn't as well-attended as it might have been, but I know people remember and will hold Raven in their hearts. I see one message on this page already. As much as I read online, she made a strong lasting impression on thousands. They have not forgotten.

Please know my offer stands. Please let me know if there is *anything* I can help you with. I can offer my time and skills. Or even just an ear. I know you will continue to have great challenges in the coming months. I just wish you the strength that I know she's sending your way.

I promise, I will save her ginger beer for a special occasion, or when I need to feel some strength.

Again, I wish you nothing but strength to get through all the challenges ahead. I can't imagine how you've been so strong for so long. I hope you have a positive and nurturing support for yourself now.

Please keep us posted if you choose to do some type of online memorial, or find a way you'd like to pay her story forward. She was so inspiring.

Take care of yourself. I know both Tim and I were glad we came, even in the middle of a downpour. I will find someone who has Facebook to see what pictures you/she have posted. Her spirit lives on.

Nancy
